1. Hot Blooded…Straight forward intro, sounds like Lick It Up by Kiss to me (just that first little part). Lou sounds great and so do the high backing vocals. Great lead guitar solo. This was a pretty big hit and a staple for Foreigner. Great song…10/10
2. Blue Morning, Blue Day…Excellent riff to start this song. I get chills when Lou hits the end of the second chorus and says “what your love has done to me” in his high register. This dude can really sing. Love this song…10/10
3. You’re All I Am…This is your straight forward power ballad. An early one for Foreigner, something they would become quite good at. I don’t like this as much as their later ballads, but it’s not bad. I do like the soulful lead guitar solo…7/10
4. Back Where You Belong…A little acoustic guitar intro. Nice. I don’t think Lou sings lead on this. I’m not sure who sings the first verse, but if someone who reads this knows please let me know. Heavy synthesizer. I really like it once Lou starts singing along. This is a pretty good song…8/10
5. Love Has Taken It’s Toll…This is a mid-tempo rocker, kind of a slower paced “Headknocker”. Funny thing is, we get a saxophone solo instead of a guitar solo. I think this song would be better with the latter…7/10
6. Double Vision…The title track and another pretty big hit for the band. I love the first line, “Feeling down and dirty, feeling kind of mean”. Again, when Lou hits the high notes with “my mind is racing but my bodie’s in the lead”, I realize just how good a singer he is. Another great song…10/10
7. Tramontane…Nothing special about this keyboard and synthesizer-heavy instrumental, other than it being the only on ever released on a Foreigner studio album (that info comes from the ever trustworthy Wikipedia). Decent guitar work…7/10
8. I Have Waited So Long…Another ballad. Again, I’m not sure who the vocalist is on this (sorry). It’s not great, but it is decent. This one has a well-placed sax solo…7/10
9. Lonely Children…Nice little riff to start this one off. Back to Lou on the vocals. This is a decent little song. I think it would work really well as a Styx song with their exceptional backing vocal ability. Solid song…8/10
10. Spellbinder…Kind of a slow-paced song that reminds me somewhat of The Damage Is Done from the debut album. Love the guitar work throughout. This is easily the best unknown song on the album…9/10
This is the second studio album by Foreigner, released in 1978. It delivered two very big hits and 1 moderate hit. I think my favorite thing about Foreigner is that their brand of rock music is just straight ahead, fairly simple music with some saxophone work thrown in here and there. I don’t feel like they try to overwhelm you. Lou Gramm is such a good vocalist and they provide pretty good backing vocals when needed. As far as this album goes, I like it, but I would say it’s my least favorite of the first four studio albums. I do think their debut, as a whole, was better. However, this was a bigger seller (which is amazing, because their debut was 5 X Platinum). The artwork is also kind of simple, but not terrible. Good album overall.
