Where Classic Rock and Metal Music Fans Hang Out

1. Let’s Put The X In Sex…Okay, cheesy title and lyrics (“Love’s like a muscle and you make me wanna flex”). Real cheesy, but I like the song overall. The vocals are good and it has a pretty good groove. Typical Bruce Kulick solo...7.5/10

2. (You Make Me) Rock Hard…This one is bad. It has even more cheesy lyrics than track one (“Love’s like a glove and it fits just right”). I’ve heard a few demos that were never released that were much better than this song…5/10

This is Kiss’ third greatest hits compilation (Double Platinum and Killers were the first two). This one included the two new songs above and 13 other tracks. Most of the other tracks were remixed but the changes were minimal. The notable exception to these was the track “Beth”. This track was probably Kiss’ biggest single ever. The music track was left unchanged, but Peter Criss’ vocals were cut and new vocals were provided by Eric Carr. I’m not a big fan of this. Eric did a good job, but they should have just given him a new song to sing. If they didn’t like the songs he provided, they could have given him one of Gene’s songs (Young And Wasted comes to mind). The vocals for “Love Gun” sound like they were produced in an echo chamber.

Track List:

1. Let’s Put The X In Sex
2. (You Make Me) Rock Hard
3. Love Gun (Remix)
4. Detroit Rock City (Remix)
5. I Love It Loud (Remix)
6. Deuce (Remix)
7. Lick It Up
8. Heaven’s On Fire
9. Calling Dr. Love (Remix)
10. Strutter (Remix)
11. Beth (Eric Carr on vocals)
12. Tears Are Falling
13. I Was Made For Loving You
14. Rock And Roll All Nite (Remix)
15. Shout It Out Loud (Remix)

I think that if Kiss were gonna release another compilation at this point, they should have only included songs from albums released since the last compilation (Killers). Those albums are:

Creatures Of The Night
Lick It Up
Animalize
Asylum
Crazy Nights

My tracklist would be:

1. Let’s Put The X In Sex
2. Creatures Of The Night
3. Lick It Up
4. Secretly Cruel
5. Young And Wasted (Remixed with Eric Carr on vocals)
6. Heaven’s On Fire
7. Crazy Crazy Nights
8. Thrills In The Night
9. A Million To One
10. I Still Love You
11. Exciter
12. Who Wants To Be Lonely
13. Reason To Live
14. Tears Are Falling
15. All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose

That sounds much better to me. I know it’s a little heavy on Paul songs, but quite honestly, I didn’t like most of Gene’s songs during this period. Maybe I’m not the only one who feels this way because, out of the 5 songs that Gene had vocals on, only 1 of those (I Love It Loud), was from that time period. Overall, I would give this album 7/10 stars. It’s just okay, but mine would have been much better. As a matter of fact, that sounds like a good playlist for the ole iPod......
