1. King Of The Mountain…Very nice drum intro by Eric. Bruce Kulick gets a co-write and his “official” debut with the band. He shows that he is very proficient on this song. Pauls vocals are good…8/10
2. Any Way You Slice It…Another bad song by Gene. Somebody tell Gene you can’t keep using “oh yeah” and “alright” as lyrics. More cheesy lyrics “let me be your king bee I want your hornets nest”. The only bright spot is Bruce’s playing…6/10
3. Who Wants To Be Lonely…A very good and very typical Paul Stanley song. This song has a very good guitar solo by Bruce. Vocals are excellent…9/10
4. Trial By Fire…This song is a little better for Gene. He is still writing “oh yeah” as a lyric. Co-written by Bruce…7/10
5. I’m Alive…Eric and Bruce jam on this song. Very good intro with the drums and guitar. Basically, Eric and Bruce steal this song, because otherwise it’s not that good. More cheesy lyrics…6.5/10
6. Love’s A Deadly Weapon…I’m really getting tired of Gene’s childish lyrics. As a recurring theme, Bruce and Eric really shine. They take a poor song and make it pretty good (especially Bruce’s shredding)…7/10
7. Tears Are Falling…Okay, this is a good song. It’s not terribly complicated, but that’s not always a bad thing. This time Bruce plays note-by-note on the solo and shows you don’t always have to shred…9/10
8. Secretly Cruel…Now, this is a little more like it, Gene. I love the guitar intro (very reminiscent of Mr. Speed). Lead and backing vocals are excellent. I would say this is my favorite 80’s song by Gene…9/10
9. Radar For Love…I like the opening riff. Something about this sounds a little Zeppelinish. Other than that, more poor writing about the same old subject…6.5/10
10. Uh! All Night…This song is just okay. More lyrics about the same thing “You work all day and you don’t know why, but there’s just one thing that money can’t buy/when your body’s been starved, feed your appetite, when you work all day you gotta uh! All night”. Actually, I think money can buy that one thing…7/10
Average is 7.5/10
This album is a little better than Animalize, but not much. Paul's songwriting was surprisingly week (other than Who Wants To Be Lonely and Tears Are Falling). Gene continued his bad songwriting that really started with Animalize. I don't know, but to me there is only so many times you can say alright and oh yeah. I'm really surprised that Kiss made it through these last 2 albums.
The bright spots were Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick. Especially Bruce. He played really well on this album. The artwork was kind of dull. Did you notice the colors for each member. Paul and Gene's were the same as their 1978 solo albums and Eric's and Bruce's corresponded with Peter's and Ace's from their 1978 solo albums. I don't know if this means anything, I just thought I'd mention it.
