Where Classic Rock and Metal Music Fans Hang Out

1. Cry Tough...Not the best drum intro I've ever heard. I do like the song once it kicks in. It's a medium paced song about what you have to do to make it. I guess for Poison getting their first album released meant they had made it...8/10

2. I Want Action...One of those singing (melodic?) intros to this song. Although the song has a decent guitar solo, the song just never goes anywhere, especially the ridiculous spoken part. Not a horrible song, just not that good...6.5/10

3. I Won't Forget You...Now this is a good song. Although many people think "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" is Poison's best ballad, I would definitely go with this one. It's simple but the guitar melody is beautiful. Great vocal performance by Brett Michaels as well...10/10

4. Play Dirty...I really don't like the lead vocal on this song. It sounds like Brett is just trying to be cute or something. And he does not sound tough. The other thing I don't like about this song is that it just sounds to slow. I think it would be better at a quicker pace...6.5/10

5. Look What The Cat Dragged In...Now, this is more like it. Much better pace on this song. Brett is still using to much accent or something in his vocals, but in spite of this, this is probably the second or third best song on the album...9/10

6. Talk Dirty To Me...Nice riff to kick this song off. I like the lead and backing vocals on this song. Nice harmonizing. This song has a good lead guitar solo. It's a silly song, but it's a lot of fun...9/10

7. Want Some, Need Some...Much better drum intro on this song than the first track. This song has pretty good drumming and guitar playing, but otherwise it's a very average rock song...7/10

8. Blame It On You...I like this song a little bit more than the previous track. The groove is good, but the lyrics are so damn cheesy. I take back what I said about liking this track, it's just plain filler...6/10

9. #1 Bad Boy...Not a good song....filler...5/10

10. Let Me Go To The Show...I'm not a drummer, but I guess that would be a high hat intro. I like it. Musically, it's not bad. But overall, it's just a half of a notch above filler. The end of the song reminds me of Twisted Sister's video for "We're Not Gonna Take It"...6.5/10

Okay, so this album was released in 1986. Hair Bands or Glam Metal was peaking. I would say if one band was a poster child for Hair Bands, that band would be Poison. They really fit the image. Teased hair and lipstick. I guess I should have used their image for this fan group's page, but that chick from the cover of Cherry Pie was just so hot! Anyway, until just now I haven't listened to this album in full in quite some time. I remember liking it a lot when it came out, but I just don't think the majority of the material holds up today. Despite 3 or 4 pretty good songs, the album is filled with filler material. I also never realized until today how little I like Brett Michael's vocal inflections (not sure if that's the correct word here) in just about every line of every song. His voice is not bad, just those inflections are irritating. One thing I like about Poison is that the music is simple, kind of like early Kiss (in it's simplicity), but the material needs to be better. Simple is not bad, bad is bad. Overall, I would say this album is average, nothing (other than a few songs) to write home about.

As far as picking songs for a compilation, I would choose:

Cry Tough
I Won't Forget You
Talk Dirty To Me

That's it....
