1980'S Rock 'N' Roll

Information

1980'S Rock 'N' Roll

A group for all of the bands that started in the 1980's or had great success in the 80's but do not really fit in to the hair band genre. Bands like Metallica, Night Ranger, Tesla and Queensryche belong here.

First album I got from them was "All For One". Hated it on the first listen and then listened to it again a couple months later and it grew on me. Love that album! I got the Japanese import about 8 years ago and it has the funniest, most over-the-top version of "Born To Be Wild" (with Udo) that you will ever hear. And then you're right...they sold out (stupid record company). But they did make a mini-comeback in 2000 with "One For All" (brilliant album title!?) and have a new one that was released in Japan, "Walk Through Fire".

Yeah, Raven was not bad at all. I bought their first 4 studio-albums between '81 and ´85. The first one, "Rock until you drop" was by far the best imo, lots of good riffs and humor on that one, but "Break the chain" from their 3rd album was a stand-out too. Then they got soft.

Niels..definitely not a knock on "Isolation". Under appreciated album from Toto, most people start and stop with "IV" and they have some really solid stuff out there ("Isolation", "Kingdom Of Desire" and "Falling In Between" to name just a few.)

And FINALLY...someone mentions Raven!!!

ok, Firehouse may be considered a Hair band... I'll concede that, but I like their stuff.

Heres a few more bands...
Firehouse
Bryan Adams
Axe
Eddie Money (sh-sh-sh-shakin')
Heart (They had a good run in the 80's)
The Babys (although their first 2 were 70's, the 80's releases of Union Jacks and On The Edge are classic IMO)
Pat Benatar
Red Rider
The Tubes

How about the following? Do they fit this group?
The Cars
Billy Idol
INXS
Loverboy

Saxon, Samson, Judas Priest, Diamond head, Raven, Tygers of pan tang, Iron Maiden even Def Leppard etc. NWOBHM you know, bands before Hair metal-crap.

Yeah, I know. But I love "Isolation". To me, it's one of those albums, that you'll never get tired of. Fergie Frederiksen was a better singer than Bobby Kimball IMO, and the album rocks more than Toto IV.
