I saw Steve Lukather playing with Paul Rodgers in Cambridge. I was dissappointed at first as it was supposed to be Neal Schon but that man can really play.
I don't know, suppposed to be under-rated but this will probably seem more just like my favorites. Its all based on opinion, but if I was to say that these guys don't get the same recognition as a Jimi Hendrix, jimmy Page or Ted Nugent then I guess they belong here.
Frank Zappa (probably thee most underrated)
Jake E. Lee
Gordie Johnson - Big Sugar
Danko Jones
Billy Gibbons (if you don't know him, you're deaf)
Mark Farner - Grand Funk
mark Kendall - Great White
Scott Gorham
Steve Marriott
Buck Dharma
Punky Meadows
Johnny Ramone
Daryl Stuermer ( Genesis let him tear it up a couple of times on their last tour and the guy is amazing!! )
Rico McFarland
Another great choice with Dary Stuermer - love his live stuff with Genesis, especially Firth Of Fifth. As good as Hackett. Very versatile as a session guy should be.
Under-rated is a tough question and can be viewed two ways. 1) an established great that doesn't get enough credit or 2) a lesser known player who SHOULD get way more credit. I tend to think more in the view of #2. So...
Ian Crichton - Saga (just a monster!)
Richie Ranno - Starz
Akira Takasaki - Loudness (the Randy Rhodes of Japan!)
Glen Buxton - Alice Cooper Band
Terry Kath - Chicago (STILL doesn't get enough credit for his amazing guitar playing!)
Donald "Buc Dharma" Roeser - Blue Oyster Cult
Brad Whitford - Aerosmith (all I hear is Joe Perry this...Joe Perry that..Brad is a beast!)
Snowy White - Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd
Pat Thrall - Pat Travers Band and Asia
Wow, great choices. Ian is truly a very technical yet extremely melodic player. Akira, sweet. Saw Loudness open for Motley Crue and they BLEW the crew off the stage. Terry. Even Jimi said that Terry was one of the best. Brad, a lot of people don't realize that even Joe Perry says that Brad plays the majority of the solos on their albums. I like your choices.
