Rickie Lee Jones- Flying Cowboys

Tracy Chapman- Crossroads
Chick Corea and Return to Forever- Light as a Feather

Yesterday, picked up the new Heaven And Hell, and the remastered re-issue of UFO's "Lights Out". Got 1 of the last 2 copies in stock of Heaven And Hell at my local Best Buy, so it seems to be selling really well. In contrast, I can guarantee there was well over 100 copies of the new U2!!
Lucky you! The Best Buys around here do not carry the UFO remasters at all so had to purchase them online. Best Buys music section is getting worse by the day, it's dwindling down to almost nothing.
Free For All - Ted Nugent
State Of Shock - Ted Nugent
The Best Of The Blues - Gary Moore
You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish - REO Speedwagon
Tygers Of Pan Tang--"Animal Instinct"
Robin Trower--"Bridge Of Sighs"
Roxette--"A Collection Of Roxette Hits" (can't get that song "Joyride" out of my head the last couple weeks, and it must be stopped!)
The Dixie Dregs--"The Best Of The Dregs: Divided We Stand"
Based on a review I read somewhere (cant remember where) I just picked up the new Dennis DeYoung release titled 'One Hundred Years From Now'. The review said this is what a new release of Styx should sound like. I was bit skeptical because of the Broadway stuff and I didnt really like some of his other solo material. But I gotta say, this one is really very good - rock and roll in the vein of Equinox, Crystal Ball and even some Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight era sounds can be heard in there, and yes there are ballads, but even those are good IMO.
Oh... and the reviewer was spot on with the Styx comment...
Glad to hear you say that about the Dennis DeYoung CD. I have it and have listened to it a number of times now. I think it IS a Styx record basically. He hired backup singers who sound like JY and Tommy and a great guitarist and I love how he uses all the synthesizer sounds that are very distinctly 70's sounds. But he is comfortable with them as they fit well with his voice and his songwriting. I think it is a great album.
Just picked up:
Paul McCartney - Wingspan (Hits & History)
Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing:The Very Best Of Dire Straits
Hall And Oates - Abandoned Luncheonette
Bad English - Bad English
Bruce Kulick - BK3 Sampler
Bruce Kulick - Transformer
Rainbow - The Very Best Of Rainbow
I also have the following on the way (should be here in a couple of days):
The Guess Who - Greatest Hits
James Gang - Greatest Hits
Jethro Tull - The Very Best Of Jethro Tull
Emerson, Lake And Palmer - The Essential ELP
Three Dog Night - The Complete Hit Singles
Recently went WILD at two different web sites. First order is from Grooveyard Records...a company specializing in heavy guitar rock and blues based rock. Picked up...
1/ "Big Jim Slade" by Big Jim Slade
2/ "This Is Delicious" by Big Jim Slade (this band is killer...good guitar, great vocal harmonies, strong songs!)
3/ "Mountain Of Power" by Mountain Of Power (Swedish project that reminds me of 70's era Deep Purple...hard and heavy with loads of guitar!)
4/ "Heavy Machinery" by Locomotive Breath (more hard, heavy rock).
5/ "Machine" by Truth (blues based rockin' disc that has so much lead guitar, it will blow your mind...think of Robin Trower on steroids!!)
6/ "Mean Streets" by Guitar Pete (more rockin blues, but with a pretty heavy guitar tone...gritty vocal style)
7/ "Hurricane" by Marcus Malone (more traditional type blues music, but with more up tempo song style)
8/ "Riffage" by Al Estrada (total instrumental disc with 19 songs, about 70 minutes long...will remind you of a Vai/Satriani all instrumental disc...major shreddage!)
9/ "The Sum Of Memories" by Ben Granfelt Band (more bluesy type rock, but tons of good lead guitar - reminds me a little of Stevie Ray - but with a little bit heavier guitar tone)
You can check out sound bites of all these releases, and many more, at GrooveyardRecords.COM
Thanks to Steve Albanese for posting about this site a while back! Some really good stuff!
And yesterday, just placed an order at CDBaby.COM...site specializing in independent, relatively unknown artists, of all styles and genres...with sound bites of course. Ordered...
1/ "Pacify The Herd" by Big Jim Slade (once I have this, my collection of all 4 BJS discs will be complete)
2/ "Rock Is Dead" by Blast Room
3/ "Cold Truth" by Cold Truth (compare them to early Bad Company...very good vocals!)
4/ "Do Whatcha Do" by Cold Truth
5/ "Relapse" by Dopefiend
6/ "Calling Captain Obvious" by The Freefall Effect
7/ "King Karma" by King Karma (good hard rock with excellent lead vocalist)
8/ "Motion Pilots" by Motion Pilots
9/ "Wide Open" by Sixth Floor (southern sounding rock, but with a harder edge)
10/ "Pack A Lunch" by Super Sternal Notch (reminds me of mixing a grunge/Metallica style together)
11/ "Tuesdays And Thursdays" by ZO2
12/ "Aint It Beautiful" by ZO2 (liked the sound bites enough by this band to buy both their CD's)
One thing I want to add...I love and support classic rock bands, just like everyone else. But I really, truly enjoy discovering, hearing, and supporting "unknown" independent bands. There is a lot of talent out there, still looking for their lucky break...and deserving of worldwide success. Ya'll check these sites, and these artists out...and if you like them, support them like you do the major artists. Your music collection will be all the better for it...and if you are like me, music being a huge part of your life, then your life will be better, right?
Music makes everything mo bettah!! (Except now, I may not be able to feed my kids...)
