Where Classic Rock and Metal Music Fans Hang Out

We have had top 10 lists of all time favorite albums, favorite live albums, best guitar players, best debut albums, etc...

So this one is for your CURRENT top ten. What are you listening to A LOT right now? If it is a 30 year old classic, so be it. If it is brand new, thats cool. What are you digging right now that you listen to a lot?

1) "Big Jim Slade" by Big Jim Slade...this band should be huge. Great vocal melodies, good guitar, and strong songs.
2) "This Is Delicious" by Big Jim Slade
3) "For Sale" by The Beatles...just got this remastered...was listening to this on vinyl at age 6!
4) "Secrets In A Jar" by Scream Sophie...killer disc from an independent band that no longer even exists, I think
5) "King Karma" by King Karma...independent band with a great debut disc.
6) "Rebirth" by Hottboxx
7) "Carnival Of Souls" by Kiss...a very under-rated and diverse album...how can anything by Kiss be largely unknown? But it seems to be that way.
8) "Walk On Water" by UFO...great songs, great guitar by Schenker...as good as anything UFO ever did...and thats saying a lot!
9) "Lipstick On The Mirror" by Pop Evil...saw them open for Judas Priest...enjoyed it so much that I bought the CD and am currently playing it a lot.
10) "King Zero" by King Zero...another unknown, independent band...just a solid, solid release with every track being enjoyable.

Oh well, like usual, I cant seem to limit myself...others getting major play right now include "The Devil You Know", by Heaven and Hell, and "Folklore and Superstitions" by Black Stone Cherry, and watching the Tesla live DVD from 2008 a lot!! A great, great live DVD!

We need to get the discussions flowing again on this board...and we need some imput from some of the new members, too! YEAH C'MON....

Gordon, thanks for trying to stimulate some discussions. I, for one, appreciate it. I think this is a great thread because by reading what you or someone else may be listening to will sometimes introduce me to new music. I also try to check out the CD reviews section on the home page. I checked out some samples of the bands THE LAST STRAW and RIVAL SONS and will definitely purchase those. I'm just trying to decide whether to buy them as downloads from Amazon or buy the CD's from Amazon. As usual, my local Best Buy has neither. On to my current Top Ten discs:

1. Def Leppard (personal mix) - I hope this qualifies, because I have been playing the hell out of some Def Leppard. My mix includes some well known tracks as well as some hidden gems like Tonight, Scar, Fractured Love, Cruise Control and Paper Sun.

2. Kiss Unplugged from Montreal 7/95 (boot) - Another unofficial disc. This is a recording from a Kiss Konvention in 1995 that is outstanding. Not only do they play songs that eventually appeared on MTV Unplugged, they played songs like Shandi, Take Me, Black Diamond and I. Also, the audience participation just gives me chills. For example, on Calling Dr. Love, Kiss played the song with the audience singing all verses and Paul and Eric adding the backing vocals on the chorus.

3. Shinedown (The Sound Of Madness) - I simply cannot stop playing this CD. In my opinion, the best current rock band around. I will be seeing them on Oct. 19 in Augusta (we finally get a decent concert around here). Do yourself a favor and at least check out the song "If You Only Knew". I really hope this is the next single.

4. The Who (The Ultimate Collection Disc 2) - Hopefully, anyone who loves classic rock would be familiar with songs such as Won't Get Fooled Again, The Real Me, Love Reign O'er Me, Who Are You, You Better You Bet and Eminence Front as well as several others.

5. Winger (IV) - Such a good CD. Love Blue Suede Shoes, Four Leaf Clover (great song), On A Day Like Today (nice ballad) and Generica. In my opinion, somewhat similar to Queensryche's American Soldier, but with a lot less fanfare.

6. Rick Springfield (Tao) - An underrated classic in my opinion. The song "Stranger In The House" is one of my all-time favorites. This is not your teen-star Rick Springfield. The songs are so much more mature than anything that came before them.

7. Ace Frehley (Anomaly) - What can I say, this is the original guitarist of my favorite band, Kiss. Although I don't think this is as good as his 78 solo album, I do think it's pretty good. Ace has never had the best voice and you can sort of tell by the lyrics on this album that he doesn't have a lot of "serious" song writing experience, but I still like it. I would prefer that he drop the spoken lyrics.

8. Def Leppard (High 'N' Dry) - I told you I was on a DL kick. This was so raw. "Lady Strange" and "Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes)" are two very underrated DL songs.

9. Eagles (Hotel California) - A true classic. Not a bad song on this one.

10. Kiss (Ikons - The Starchild disc [Paul Stanley]) - Nothing but classics by Paul Stanley on this disc. Detroit Rock City, Take Me, Strutter, I Was Made For Loving You and Love Gun, just to name a few. I could easily make a 3 or 4 disc collection of Paul's stuff.

I am listening to:

The white album
Abbey road
Revolver (all of them remastered. IMO these 3 albums sticks out in the Beatles catalouge)
Mob rules
The new MUSE (can't remember, what it's called, but they are a little too much influenced by Queen, on this one)
Neil Young "Archieves"
Bob Dylan "Tell tale signs"
Flaming lips " At war with mystics" ( looking forward to the new one, coming soon)
Van Halen II
Rainbow rising

On the DVD are KISSOLOGY I+II, and RUSH "Snakes and arrows live".

I'm looking forward to buy Jethro Tull "live at Madison Scuare Garden 1978" an "Gimme Shelter" very soon.
